How It Works

First, a child must learn the primary sound of each letter.

By following the instructions and prompts that are given, you will know how important and vital certain practices are. For example, when you "read and point" in books with children, you are modeling the following behaviors that they need to learn:

• - We read English from left to right.
• - There are relationships between the spoken word and "squiggles" in a book.
• - Words are separated by spaces on a page.
• - We read the left page before the right page in a book.
• - We read from top to bottom, and when we get to the end of a line, we go down one line and start again from the left side.
